This course emphasizes swallowing and feeding services for children in the education setting. Information on how a school district can set up the infrastructure needed to address pediatric feeding disorders including administrative approval, organization, and support, a process for identifying and treating students, a trained and experienced staff, food nutrition services with training on IDDSI, and utilizing district personnel including increasing capacity will be included. Attendees will learn how to advocate for PFDs in their school district and how to address the different PFD types of cases that are seen in the school setting. The important things that we have learned about providing services for PFDs in the school setting will be shared. The course highlights where we are in providing these necessary services and where we need to go to provide safe mealtimes for children with disabilities in the school setting.
